Everything a ceramic artist or studio needs in one place.

Introducing the the super app to ceramics

I started this project thinking about the foundations for the ux thinking progress. My thinking was about the design behind the content with a focus on how to serve the audience the information they need when they need it. How would it look like if all of these different features would exist in one app. Which comes as a huge benefit offering an all around service to their customers which can be a hurtle because the user can become very dependent on the app. When it comes to who benefits the most, is the super app more beneficial for the artist or the studio.

Project Timeline (6 months)

My role (Product Designer, visuals & interaction)

As a freelance ceramic artist, I understand the pain points facing artists throughout the design process to get to the final sale. It is easy to lose work, make a mess, not know how to sell or price work.

Artwork is put into a kiln for bisqueware firing, then glazed before the glassware firing. It’s really difficult for ceramic artists to loose work through this process. This app works to streamline the process while organizing, voice control and speech to text technology, categorizing and labeling work, camera tool with prompt. For the studio, there is a website and app for accessing supplies, signing up for classes, creating and managing events, sync to kiln, timestamps and calendar of users, employee hours and online internal messaging service.

Design Process

I joined a large studio, taking classes while getting to know teachers and artists. I did some qualitative research trying to understand problems they are facing and possible tools that can help. These studios are open usually open everyday and typically has store selling supplies, classes going on and individuals working. The studio has throwing wheels, system for cleaning, storing, cleaning with a store, art studio, glaze room, furnace and/or kilns.
